History

Impact Retreats began in the fall of 2008 as Daniel DeGarmo, Mark Hatfield and Matthew Allen created a venue in which men could gather together for a weekend in the beauty of God’s creation to completely shed the masks of perceived perfection and allow the word of God to expose our weaknesses, convict us of our sin and build us up in the faith. Pike Lake State Park (Bainbridge, OH) has been the chosen location for this retreat from its inception in 2008 to 2013 and will serve as the meeting place once again for the 2016 retreat. Over 100 different men from the US and Canada have experienced the retreat, many of them returning year after year.

In 2014, Impact Retreats expanded it’s offering of retreat locations, offering an opportunity for men to gather in South Dakota’s Black Hills. We have had record attendance for the Ohio retreat in 2014 & 2015, as well as great attendance at our South Dakota event.

We have a rich history of featured speakers – Jason Hardin (2009); Edwin Crozier (2010); Ken Weliever (2011 & 2012); Keith Stonehart (2013); Andy Cantrell (2014); and Frederic Gray (2015) – that have covered topics such as Integrity, Addiction, LeadershipFatherhood; and Spiritual Growth. Bobby Blackburn (Whitehouse, TN) will be our Ohio speaker for 2016.

The weekend retreat schedule begins with a meet and greet barbecue at 5pm on Friday and culminates to our first devotion around the fire at 9pm. Saturday morning is greeted with a buffet style breakfast cooked by some of the men and then another devotion at 10am. Saturday afternoons are considered ‘free time’ and attendees can do whatever they want (hiking, fishing, disc golf, relaxing, etc.) until we grill out and eat dinner around 6pm. The final devotion of the weekend begins at 8pm on Saturday and ends whenever the last person walks away from the campfire. On Sunday morning, attendees will often gather to pray before everyone leaves to meet with various churches.

Impact Retreats for Men is organized and facilitated by Daniel DeGarmo and Matthew Allen and if you are interested in having an Impact Retreat in your area, don’t hesitate to contact us!
